Commentary for July 27, 2022:

Ever been in a meeting where you’re so mind-numbingly bored that you can’t help but start to drift off? Yeah, this is what I was trying to get across with Kari-Ya on this page.

This is the start of a new chapter, Chapter 41, ‘The Gift’. Like Chapter 40, this is another re-make of a story originally created for the 2018 remaster of Eon’s Comic, which was meant to replace what had been the original 2003 Christmas story.

Growing up in England, my experience with comics was, well, actually almost entirely limited to Sonic the Comic. But there’s a tradition in British comics of having a dedicated Christmas issue each year, and that was a thing I opted to do myself each year in Eon’s Comic. Every year, I put out a story set at Christmas, sometimes even doing a whole extra page specially for Christmas Day itself. I hadn’t quite got the hang of it by Christmas 2003, and the story I put out that year was just a collection of one or two panel vignettes looking in on the seasonal activities of various different groups of characters. As a whole, it wasn’t a story I wanted to remaster in 2018, but there was a nugget of a good story across a couple of those vignettes that I chose to take and expand upon, and I think I did a good job of that four years ago, despite the limitations of the classic Eon’s Comic format. So it was a no-brainer that I would remake that story for Eon’s World Vol. 1, but this time it would have more room to breathe.

This scene here is an example of that, as this meeting wasn’t in the 2018 version, but I felt it was important for the overall story. This isn’t, of course, Kari-Ya’s earliest appearance in Eon’s World, but it is definitely her earliest outing as the protagonist.
