Commentary for May 5, 2020: There’s lots of ways you can do a time travel story. I could have told a whole story about how Evelyn Blackwood managed to change history and, as a result, the Iron Queen had taken over the world with an army of technomancers at her back, and the heroes would have to travel in time to undo the damage she’d done. But that’s awfully similar to a time travel story from Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic and it would be a much more protracted story that I just didn’t want to spend the time on. With this story, I just wanted there to be a significant threat for the heroes to deal with, while using time travel as a way to give a little glimpse of the future, rather than telling a convoluted Back to the Future Part II style time travel story. That said, with this scene on this page and tomorrow’s, I am writing some serious cheques that I’ll need to cash later. Here, for instance, we have Gemerl from Sonic Advance 3, who actually never once appeared in Eon’s Comic and never will appear in Eon’s World Vol. 1 (apart from in this story). No, they’re a character who will make their proper debut in Vol. 2. Tomorrow’s page will also have a character like that. You see, while the rules of time travel in Eon’s World are not such that any particular path is fated to happen, I’m not going to show anything in the future that I don’t intend to eventually happen in the story. I’m taking a leaf out of Babylon 5’s book here; whenever there was a glimpse of the future in Babylon 5, we would eventually see it happen. Credits: Metal Sonic sprites originally by CyberShadow. |
