Commentary for April 13, 2020: I’m not crying, you’re crying! I won’t lie, I actually did get a little emotional writing Blaze’s farewell to Cream here. Naturally, her saying “I’ll miss you most of all” is a pretty direct reference to Dorothy's farewell to the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, which is one of my all time favourite films. Like the Scarecrow to Dorothy, Cream was the first friend Blaze made in this world and she has had a profound impact on her and how she sees other people, and that experience has changed her forever, for the better. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: this page format really does allow me to embellish some scenes where I couldn’t in the days of Eon’s Comic. In the 2018 remaster, Blaze and Cream’s farewell was much shorter than this -- only two panels, rather than four, and there was no room for the hug at the end. But I really feel a hug was necessary, and I am so happy to have been able to do this scene justice with it. Credits: Blaze the Cat sprites originally by Kaijin. |
