Commentary for March 25, 2020: At the risk making the subtext text, I’d just like to say how pleased I am with the juxtaposition of this first scene featuring Mortimer demanding military support from GUN and his earlier scene where he refused to continue financial support to people affected by Eggman’s occupation of Westside Archipelago. Things look very different to men like Mortimer when they’re the ones who need help. You can probably see where this story is going now, but that’s not a bad thing. Not every story has to surprise its readers, after all. Anyway, this page took a little longer than I hoped it would. Heavy action sequences with soldiers and dozens of Badniks and wrecked vehicles, flames, and smoke just tend to take longer, after all. It’s not just about there being more stuff in shot or visual effects; it’s also about the positioning of the sprites and making sure what’s happening is reasonably clear and that the characters I want in shot are visible. I can sometimes agonise over scenes like this for a few hours, honestly. Still, at least it’s quicker than almost any panel in Vol. 2. |
