Commentary for August 4, 2020: In many ways, this chapter could have been where the story of Eon’s World ended. I could have just wrapped up the loose end of the Echidna Empire left over from Eon’s Comic and called it a day. I hadn’t done much to set up an ongoing narrative beyond this arc and, really, who was reading Eon’s World at this point that had read Eon’s Comic and remembered any of the other loose ends left over from those days? But I still had stories I wanted to tell and now was the time to set them up as this chapter drew to a close. Take note of the Cornerian declaration of war in the news, because that will be important in an upcoming chapter. Anyway, this was Serena Darkstorm’s first appearance since Chapter 5 and I was very excited to draw her again. At this point, she’s one of my oldest OC’s and I do enjoy her as a character. But I took this opportunity to give her a bit of a redesign. I wanted her to look more distinct, to really differentiate between a wolf and a fox in a way my art had never managed before. Like with Wargaz, I took some cues from the design of Steeljaw, a Decepticon from the 2015 Transformers: Robots in Disguise cartoon, whose robot mode resembles an anthropomorphic wolf. I also gave her a new haircut and a new outfit, which is actually based on one of the outfits worn by the titular character in The Legend of Korra, which I had just recently watched for the first time. It’s an amazing series and a worthy sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I personally want Korra’s entire wardrobe. But I’ll settle for dressing some of my characters in outfits inspired by it. |
