Commentary for December 23, 2019: For a bigger glimpse into the historic feud between the Echidna Empire and the Guardians, take a look at Eon’s World Vol. 1, Chapter 7. I realise what’s wrong with some of the characters in this chapter now (artistically speaking, that is), and it’s the way I drew their teeth, specifically the big fangs. It’s very in keeping with the style of Sonic since all the characters were redesigned for Sonic Adventure to give them some sharper teeth like that, but I’ve found you need to be careful not to make those teeth overly prominent, or everyone ends up looking like Nack the Weasel. Also, the heads on the more humanoid characters in this chapter were a bit too big and that’s quite apparent from the two orcs on this page. While writing the script here, I remember wondering if it was a bit too light-hearted to have Horatio make such a dad joke here while opening the secret door. But then it occurred to me that he does see Kari-Ya as almost a daughter to him, and we so rarely get to see a more humorous side of him. Hence the line in that last panel. As with the previous chapters, I have now made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text, to make it consistent with Chapter 7 onwards. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read. |
