Commentary for September 20, 2014:

This page was a little painful to do. I've been carefully scrutinising how different artists on the Sonic comics draw characters over the last year or so and in this chapter, more so than previous ones, I'm really trying to go for a style much closer to that. Unfortunately, it had a few teething problems. Eon's eyes in panel 2, for instance, make him look as if he's having a staring contest with Gowron. Still, I think I did okay with Cookirini, who I've only drawn before very occasionally. Over all, I think this page looks okay.

Addendum for December 12, 2019:

In order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, I’ve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read.

I also changed the script here a little to fix a retcon I had originally made in Eon’s Comic. Originally, Cookirini had been possessed by a malevolent spirit and that was what made her into the Sith lord, Darth Acerbus. But as Eon’s Comic went on, I became unhappy with the idea of possession by evil spirits and changed the story to Cookirini simply having become possessed of dark magics, which drove her to the dark side. I think I was in hardline atheist mode at the time and wanted to minimise spiritual or religious elements in the story, and I was still running with that retcon by the time I originally wrote this chapter.

Having realised that atheism doesn’t make anyone smarter than anyone else and, actually, there are a lot of obnoxious jerks in the atheism community, with all the same problems of racism, sexism, transphobia, and right-wing political ideas that you find among the religious, I’ve chilled the heck out since then. I am still an atheist because the case for the divine has not been made, but it’s not something I fly a flag for anymore. And having a bit of the unknown, the unexplained, or the paranormal in a story can make it fun. Stories too grounded in hyperrealism are boring. And really, this is a Sonic the Hedgehog fan comic with elements of Star Wars, Freedom Planet, and Star Fox in it. The hyperrealism ship sailed long ago. Moreover, Force ghosts are just a thing in Star Wars. If the Force is allowed in Eon’s World, so are Force ghosts and other spirits.

So I fixed the dialogue to acknowledge -- by name -- the spirit who once possessed Cookirini. It’s a rare thing actually that I make an alteration back to how something was originally intended in Eon’s Comic. But hey, not everything I wrote when I was younger was garbage.
