Commentary for September 17, 2014:
And we're back. Sorry about the long hiatus, but August is almost always a busy month for me, and I wanted a good chance to get a decent amount of pages of chapter 5 done in advance of resuming, since I'm going back to a twice-a-week schedule again. Anyways, here we are!
It's come to my attention that very little of this comic has taken place outside so far; it's mostly been inside buildings or spacecraft. So, I'm not as well practised in doing outdoor scenes as I'd like, and previous examples haven't been spectacular, honestly. But I must say, I'm really pleased with how panel 2 turned out on this page. Still, most of this chapter will also be taking place inside artificial environments, although there will be more outdoor scenes than in previous chapters.
I've continued the experiment in colouring that began in chapter 4 and, I must say, I'm satisfied with the results. It allows me to include textures that I can apply via SketchUp, which is why the hangar has a tiled floor in proper perspective. I don't have the skill in drawing perspective to pull that off by hand (nor indeed to really draw any inorganic structures, for that matter, which is why I use SketchUp at all). There were some tricky moments, however, like drawing the equipment laid out in front of the quartermaster consistently, but it's all practice, ne?
Addendum for December 12, 2019:
In order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, Iíve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read.
