Commentary for July 3, 2013: Iopolis Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be -- oh, wait, I appear to be channelling Obi Wan. However, Iopolis Spaceport did prove itself to be a fairly wretched experience in its creation. No matter how much I did, I felt I needed more. Ironically, very little of the spaceport is seen in this chapter. For fellow residents of Scotland, you may recognise the control tower as being based on the one at Edinburgh Airport. And finally we get to see the Starblazer in action! This was actually one of the earliest 3D models I created. There was an early attempt that went completely fubar (mostly because I really didn't know what I was doing in SketchUp), but I came back at it again later and did a much better job. Believe it or not, though, I only got round to adding the landing gear when I needed it for this page. Addendum for October 3, 2019: In order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, I’ve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read. |
