Commentary for June 2, 2020:

Currency is weird. In most sci-fi settings, they use “credits”, while fantasy settings tend to use gold pieces. I find both kind of generic and bland, honestly, but in the old days of Eon’s Comic, I just ran with credits because it felt like the sci-fi thing to do. Now some Sonic fans have suggested that rings should be the currency in Sonic’s world, and there is some credence to that, given that collected rings can be used to purchase items from vendors in Sonic Unleashed and there is some dialogue in Shadow the Hedgehog that suggests rings are used as currency, too. But I didn’t want to be confusing with two different types of ring -- one used as a portal and the other as money -- so I went with mobiums, which were the currency used in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, and the Archie Sonic comic. It’s just another little nod to previous Sonic lore. And talking of nods to previous versions of Sonic, Sonic’s objection that he is worth way more than the offered reward value is a very deliberate reference to the first episode of AoStH.

Anyway, a note about the visuals on this and the previous page. I had been kind of trying to avoid using motion blur to create the illusion of speed, as it dramatically increases the file size of each page. I’ve tried to use other, less complex methods up to now, but I didn’t feel as if any of them were quite enough to show just how fast Sonic and the Rogues are moving in this scene, so I fell back on the motion blurring I used to use in Eon’s Comic. The file sizes here are still way smaller than some of those old pages could get up to; but still, I don’t intend to use it anywhere near as often as I did back then.

Credits: Jet the Hawk sprites adapted from sprites by Dead-Meme and Kid222; Wave the Swallow sprites originally by Zig Sonar; Storm the Albatross sprites originally by Cylent Night.
