v

Commentary for December 28, 2013:

I have nothing to say about this page at this time, other than I am glad to have finished it. I've been working on it in circumstances that are far from ideal, considering I'm away from the comfort of my own home and work space and having to use my laptop rather than my desktop right now. Just doing a single panel has taken all day and it has been a very weary process with no reward at the end of the day. Very much looking forward to going home.

I plan for the story to resume on March 1, 2014.

Addendum for October 5, 2019:

In order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, I’ve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read.

Also, it has been nearly six years now, so I feel I can elaborate on where my headspace was at when I created this page. It was Christmas, 2013. That summer, I had just come out to my family as transgender and they were very slow to accept it, which made spending the holiday with family, far away from home, very difficult for me. That is why I didn’t have a great deal to say about my work at the time. I felt trapped and alone. Things are much better now, however, so I’ll give a few thoughts on this chapter.

Like so much of Eon’s World Vol. 2, there was a lot of experimentation going on in this chapter, but I remember being fairly satisfied at this point that the 3D models I used should only ever be guides and never part of the final image. It’s interesting that I walked this back again in chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8, only finally abandoning it and returning to the decision I made at this point for Chapter 9, earlier this year (as of the time of writing). The reason for this was, honestly, time saving. Drawing the backgrounds the same as I drew the characters took a long time. I’ve found quicker ways since to do both and what I feel is a much better way of doing backgrounds, to boot, but I recall feeling an immense amount of pressure doing Chapter 4, given that I wasn’t just using 3D models as backgrounds (chapters 1, 2, and part of 3) or even 3D models augmented with my own outlines drawn in Paint Shop Pro (chapters 5 through 8), and I hadn’t yet figured out how to do it quickly. I mean, even now a detailed background can take me hours to do, but I’ve found ways to get things done quicker.

Anyway, looking back over this chapter, there are a few Jedi characters who I feel really ought to make another appearance some time soon, since we haven’t seen any of these people (except Thoronir) basically since this page. I’ll need to see about working them into upcoming chapters.
