Commentary for April 6, 2013: I don't have too much to say about this page, really. It's basically a bit of showing off with my Huntress class corvette model, which I'm particularly proud of, but I know that it doesn't really advance the plot all that much. It's more of an extended establishing shot, really. Don't worry, this is the last gratuitous full-page splash for this chapter. I wanted to have a go at something like it though, because it's not something I could ever do in the medium of a sprite comic, whereas a more conventional comic sometimes calls for it. I realise that the blockade is hard to see, but if you really squint at the space station, you might be able to make out a cluster of ships surrounding it (they look like very thin grey lines). Yeah, I could have just made the station closer for this shot, so that the blockade was more visible to the readers, but I don't think that would have done justice to the actual scale of... well, space. Apparently, sci-fi writers have no sense of scale, so I'd like to do my part to subvert that particular trope. I'm not sure what's going on with Eon's upper lip in panel 2, but it looks odd to me... Fortunately, it gets better... I think... Addendum for October 3, 2019: In order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, I’ve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read. |
