Commentary for July 20, 2013: So, one of the reasons I procrastinated for so long over transitioning from a sprite format to a hand drawn format is because I was worried I couldn't draw well enough for it, or that my art would be inconsistent. Those fears weren't totally baseless, but neither were they particularly justified in the end. I've noticed a steady increase in the quality of my art and the speed at which I can draw, just from doing this comic. If I'd realised the effect that resuming work on it would have, I might have begun sooner. One thing that's always bothered me was crease lines on clothes. Other artists seem to have no trouble with them, but they just didn't come naturally to me. However, on this page, I think I found a way... and I think they've improved on subsequent pages too. Anyways, about Jedi powers. Jedi never struck me as telepaths in the Babylon 5 sense, where they can easily read someone's mind and find out whatever they want. Rather, they struck me as having the ability to "read" surface thoughts, particularly ones with strong emotions attached to them (see Luke Skywalker's final battle with Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi). Sure, some Jedi may have more potent abilities, but they're not mind-readers per se. Of course, people fear the unknown and misunderstandings and suspicions of this weird alien cult in service to Earth Gov abound. Addendum for October 3, 2019: In order to bring the format of the earlier chapters into line with Chapter 7 onwards, I’ve made an updated version of this page, which is larger, with clearer text. Hopefully, this will make the earlier chapters easier to read. |
