Page for October 15, 2003:

Commentary for September 14, 2018:

Since this is a page with GUN troops on it, it took quite a bit of editing in the first pass to update the sprites. I also changed up the panel order slightly for better story flow. On second pass, it was just a few backgrounds that needed changing, although I did make a point of replacing some generic robot enemies from Mega Man Battle Network at the end with GUN Hunter robots from Sonic Rush.

Why haven't I included them before, when GUN Hunters were ubiquitous in Sonic Adventure 2, which was, at the original time of writing, my main source on GUN? (Yes, GUN had appeared in the Archie Sonic comics and in Sonic X too by now, but they weren't sources I really looked to at the time.) Sonic Rush hadn't come out yet in 2003, but that doesn't explain their absence from the remaster, does it? Well, frankly, it was snobbery. I just didn't feel that many of the enemy sprites in Sonic Rush were all that good, Badniks or GUN robots. I've always felt they were clunky and simplistic. I have used the Falco Badnik sprite in a couple of places, because that one looks fine. But the Egg Pawns and the GUN robots leave a lot to be desired.

So why use them here? Well, I figure Omega 5 is largely automated. If the only way on or off the base is by aircraft, that means supplies can only come in that way, too. So it would be better to have robotic guards in the detention centre in order to keep personnel numbers down. Why the clunky and simplistic Sonic Rush sprites, though? Well, because they're GUN Hunters, like in Sonic Adventure 2. *shrugs*
