Page for October 11, 2003:
Commentary for September 13, 2018:
With this remaster, some pages just require a few tweaks to the dialogue. Others are complete replacements with an entirely new story. And then there's pages like this. The story is the same (albeit with improved dialogue), but every single panel has been re-created (as faithfully to the original as possible) with majorly updated backgrounds. Like with the Pyramid Base backgrounds I mentioned in the previous commentary, the ARK was one of the first locations I made custom backgrounds for -- mostly by piecing together bits of Sonic Advance backgrounds and drawing windows in the walls in MS Paint. I mean, sure, early on, I thought they were great. But, as my skills improved, I started phasing them out in favour of better stuff. But that took a while yet, still, and a lot of my ARK backgrounds, I feel, just weren't really up to the task. Which is why I've made some better ones specially for the remaster, and going forwards, I will be using them instead of the originals.
Like I said in the previous commentary, I am considering going back to earlier pages and replacing all the ARK backgrounds in a similar fashion, but I've not decided yet. It is a big job, after all, and would require quite a bit more than just replacing backgrounds in some cases. (Remember those pink Sora-Ya sprites from early on? 'cause my computer sure doesn't!)
This page, which went online on October 11, 2003, is noteworthy as being the closest we get to a first anniversary page, page #001 having first gone online on October 12, 2002. So, happy first birthday, Eon's World!
