Commentary for August 06, 2018:

Blaze the Cat's story continues in yet another completely new page made for the remaster!

Now that she has the Sol Emerald once again, Blaze's next move is to find a way home; but that's easier said than done, especially when the hiding place of the Chaos Emeralds is closely watched by the Freedom Fighters! But do you get the feeling that this could all be settled so much more easily if people would just stop fighting for a moment and talk? Maybe there's a moral to this story. Maybe.

When I decided I wanted to adapt Sally Acorn for Eon's World, I had to come up with a backstory for her, and part of it involved her and a group called the Freedom Fighters (who you'll have seen mentioned elsewhere by now) having fought Doctor Eggman when he first attacked (during the events of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, which I take to have occurred some time in 2501). While Sally has moved on to politics now, the Freedom Fighters still exist and you get to meet two of them here; the Lightfoot twins, adapted from two characters from the old Sonic comics.

Johnny Lightfoot is best known for his role in Fleetway's Sonic the Comic, where he was one of the core Freedom Fighters from the time Doctor Robotnik took over the world. He also appeared in other, mostly European Sonic media, such as novels and adventure game books. I've basically taken the character from StC and given him a modern Sonic style makeover; he keeps the red jacket and the shoes, while losing the jeans and T-shirt, but his main weapon is still his signature metal staff.

Bunnie Rabbot, of course, is a beloved character from Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog and SatAM Sonic, where she joined the Freedom Fighters early on. For her redesign, I've gone for a bit of a mix of her pre and post-reboot looks from the comics, with a bit of my own ideas from some old drawings I did thrown in. But how did Bunnie become part robot in Eon's World? Does Eggman have a roboticiser or were her limbs damaged or lost somehow? That's a good question, and one I intend to answer in future stories.

I know what you're thinking, though. Making Bunnie and Johnny twins? Well, why not? After all, Bunnie was adapted from early concept art of Johnny that was going to be used in SatAM. So I made them siblings as a nod to that. And they're both awesome characters whom I love dearly and I'm both delighted and excited to give a role to for Eon's World. And for the record, Bunnie is about five minutes older than Johnny. It's enough to put her in full on big sister mode, though!

But what about Antoine? Will he be around? Will he and Bunnie be an item like in Archie Sonic? Well, stay tuned and you'll find out.

Anyone who's played Sonic Mania should, of course, recognise Overlord Egg Robo's chopper as part of the Act 1 boss fight from Studiopolis Zone.
